A long history

The Antonelli family moved to San Rossore in 1824 following the "horse race" that Leopold II of Lorraine brought to the estate to safeguard its genetic integrity against the arrival of Napoleon's troops. Poldo Antonelli was born in 1861 in La Scaletta and lived as a fisherman in Bocca d'Arno until the 1940s, quickly becoming the right-hand man of Queen Elena, who often spent her summers at San Rossore.

Poldo's son, Fernando, and his wife Aristea, known as Emma, started a food pantry in the former monastery of San Lussorio—the Christian martyr from whom the estate takes its name—and the shop soon became a general store where people could eat and buy everything they needed.

After Fernando's death—a young man who had enlisted in the Royal Navy and was a casualty of the African campaign—his son Poldino took over the business, joined by his wife Maria Grazia and his sons Maurizio and Sandro. Together, they created Ristorante Poldino, where the aromas and flavors of a pristine environment have survived to this day.

Today, Sandro and his wife Annalia run the restaurant, heirs to a culinary culture deeply rooted in the local area and tied to the best Tuscan traditions.

The Bond with the Territory

The bond between Ristorante Poldino and Tenuta di San Rossore goes far beyond mere geographic location, representing a true pact of love with the surrounding environment. Our cuisine faithfully reflects a protected ecosystem, where wildlife and marine flora thrive untouched.

We highlight the park's iconic products, such as Pisan cow meat, local game, and the renowned organic beach honey. This deep connection allows us to bring authentic dishes to the table, evoking the regal and wild atmosphere of our beloved Tuscany.

The Manufacturing Companies

To ensure the utmost freshness in our short-chain cuisine, we work closely with trusted suppliers in the province of Pisa. For traditional cured meats, such as lonzino, capocollo, and finocchiona, we rely on Macelleria Morelli Mariano in Pontedera, which also supplies us with excellent cuts of Chianina and Mucco Pisano beef, raised exclusively in the province of Pisa.

Our artisanal pasta is supplied by the Pasta dei Miracoli pasta factory in Pisa, pine nuts from the San Rossore estate are provided by Grassini, and organic beach honey from the Park is supplied by Sapori Mediterranei. During the summer, you can also find artisanal ice cream from the award-winning De' Coltelli gelateria in Pisa. Our game meat is sourced exclusively from the San Miniato Macelli Consortium, which sources game from selective slaughters in the Park and from various areas of Tuscany.
